Pikachu Adventures Classic is a 2D platformer we developed in 2015 featuring a side-scrolling adventure with collectibles and obstacles. This early game development project demonstrates our foundational skills in 2D game mechanics, sprite animation, level design, and engaging platformer gameplay creation.
Gameplay and Level Design
We designed classic platformer mechanics including running, jumping, and collecting items across multiple themed levels. Each stage presents unique challenges with moving platforms, enemy patterns, and hidden bonus areas. Our level design follows a progressive difficulty curve, gradually introducing new mechanics and obstacles to keep players engaged while teaching game systems through play.
Technical Development
We implemented essential game programming concepts including collision detection, sprite animation systems, scrolling camera management, and basic enemy AI. Our game loop handles input processing, physics updates, and rendering efficiently, providing smooth gameplay at consistent frame rates across different hardware configurations.
Art and Audio Design
We created colorful pixel art sprites and hand-crafted tile-based environments that form a vibrant, inviting game world. Our background music and sound effects complement the gameplay, with distinct audio cues for jumping, collecting items, defeating enemies, and completing levels. The visual and audio design we crafted work together to deliver an enjoyable classic platforming experience.
